Peace of mind while traveling because of the Bed Bug Registry

For travelers in other nations, bed bugs are always of concern. After becoming bitten in a hotel, an irritated computer programmer decided to fight back. She created the Bed Bug Registry. The Bed Bug Registry uses user-submitted reports to map bedbug sightings.

The bedbug facts

Want to know what a bedbug is? It feeds on blood as a parasite. Upholstered furniture, such as beds and couches, are where bedbugs are found as they’re active at night mostly. There has recently been a resurgence in bedbugs that are resistant to normal pesticides. More bedbugs have come for a reason. The increased international travel is why lots of people think it is. Bedbugs could be anywhere and might be something you’ve to work hard to get rid of, although there is a stigma with them. Spiders, ants, cockroaches and centipedes are the predators of bedbugs that everyone tries to get out of their home.

Bedbug registry info

Computer programmer Maciej Ceglowski was bitten by bedbugs in 2006 which led to the Bedbug registry being began. The website is intended for user-submitted reports of bedbugs. There isn't any kind of verification done by the bedbug registry. That's not what the site is for. There is a way for any location to dispute a report submitted to the bedbug registry, but reports that meet posting guidelines are not removed without the author’s permission. A location can be reported once and then have no other reports. If there aren't any reports after two years, it is removed.

Stay away from bedbugs

If you are going to travel, protect yourself. You are able to do this with the bedbug registry. Make sure you try to find patterns since Bedbug Registry reports aren't verified. Keep in mind that these views are user-submitted. Some inaccurate ones will show up. Have you experienced a bedbug problem? Make sure you report it and fast. The hotel needs to address the problem easily in order to fix it and will have a better chance if they learn about the infestation faster.
