Nicollette Sheridan suing Desperate Housewives for assault
Nicollette Sheridan certainly loved playing the role of Edie Britt on “Desperate Housewives.” Being voluntarily smacked around in the bedroom was fitting for the role of the man-eating, flirtatious Ms. Britt. But being smacked around by the producers of the program behind the scenes and terminated without good cause didn’t make for a good day on Wisteria Lane.
They could end up needing paydayloans , because according to the New York Times, Nicollette Sheridan is now suing the producers of “Desperate Housewives” for assault and wrongful termination.
Exactly what happened that destroyed Nicollette Sheridan’s character?
Nicollette Sheridan’s lawsuit claims the creator of the popular nighttime soap opera, Marc Cherry, struck her during an incident that occurred in September, 2008, when Sheridan supposedly asked Cherry about a line in the script. As noted by the Associated Press, Marc Cherry’s alleged response was to take Nicollette Sheridan to the side and “forcefully hit her with his hand across her face and head.”
Her pleas are reported to have fallen on deaf ears, when Nicollette Sheridan went straight to ABC to complain about Marc Cherry’s alleged violent treatment. Edie Britt was killed off not long after that. Sheridan believes it was retaliation by ABC because she dared to “make a fuss.”
How did Edie Britt die?
It certainly has nothing to do with a lover or lover’s wife or girlfriend seeking revenge. It ended with a patented deadly auto crash, as Zap2It outlines within the fateful 2009 episode of “Desperate Housewives.” Orson was “running across the street after one of his breaking and entering,” and Edie swerved to steer clear of hitting him. Her car struck a utility pole, and downed power lines hit the puddle of water into which Edie’s body had settled. In a real double whammy, collision and electrocution claimed her.
That episode was followed by a flashback episode in which the “Desperate Housewives” remember Nicollette Sheridan’s character. Edie “smacks” some senses into Lynette and Bree in two of the flashbacks, in hopes they can find the strength to face their own issues. Mrs. McCluskey “smacks” some sense into Edie’s son Travis when he finds out about her death and is barely fazed. Mrs. McCluskey “smacks down” Edie for her attempt to sympathize with McCluskey over having lost a son, which was the final smack.
Were all these smacking coincidental?
It’s certainly an interesting word choice on Zap2It’s part, taking into account Nicollette Sheridan’s experience with Marc Cherry. It could possibly be argued coincidental, since the episode aired more than likely before the smack down was public knowledge. But Edie’s death itself was explained away in Gabby’s flashback from the exact same episode, where Nicollette Sheridan’s character confided that she was going to die before she was 50. Oh ABC, how convenient. We’ll see if Nicollette Sheridan smacks you down, and whether you’ll need short term loans.
