Box Office Set To Be Pillaged By New Robin Hood

Robin Hood Poised To Raid The Box Office

The new Robin Hood film, starring Russell Crowe and helmed by Ridley Scott, will premiere at the Cannes Film Festival. May 14 is when it will be released in theaters. However, given that it isn't the first take on the legend of Robin Hood, one wonders if it will conquer the box office. Ironically, considering the pay scales of studio heads and actors, the no faxing payday loans generated from the grosses will really be doing the exact opposite of Robin Hood.

Slightly different take on Robin Hood

The Ridley Scott Robin Hood has most of the normal elements there. Robin returns from the 3rd Crusade, having fought for Richard the Lionheart, and finds King John and the Sheriff of Nottingham terrorizing the populace. Robin rebels, fights the evil forces of the king, robs the rich and gives to the poor with the help of the Merry Men of Sherwood Forest. It promises to be a rollicking good time, and also the new version tries to be just a little a lot more faithful to the period than previous versions.

Cannes Premiere

The film will be premiering at the Cannes Film Festival. Sadly, Ridley Scott won’t be there. According to USA Today, he recently had knee surgery and hasn’t recovered enough to travel. The cast must walk the red carpet without the director. It's actually the fifth time he and Crowe have worked together, so their partnership has indeed been a fruitful one.

Robin Hood does not seem to have really existed

There isn’t really any evidence for an actual Robin Hood, though the story is a wonderful tale of rebellion against an evil government. None of the famous American outlaws really did anything for the common folk either. King Richard actually spent little time in England. He also spoke barely a word of English. Furthermore, the actual rebellion against King John was in the interests of the nobles, not actually the commoners. Nevertheless, the result of that rebellion, the Magna Carta, was a step within the right direction.
