Schwarzenegger cleared to furlough California staff by court

Schwarzenegger has had little help in trying to keep the state afloat. California has had several consecutive years of a spending budget shortfall. Schwarzenegger had to make use of a furlough of state workers, but was sued to keep him from doing this. The lawsuit to block further furloughs has been struck down by the Supreme Court of California.

Court says sure to furlough order

Governor Schwarzenegger was forced to furlough California state employees in structure to save cash. Workers won’t get paid for two days that they’re required to take off every month. In 2008, the furloughs were only 2 days when in 2009, they went up to three days. When the state furlough orders were renewed in 2009, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger was sued by the Professional Engineers in CA Government. They claimed it was illegal for making mandatory days off like that. That’s why the suit went through. The California Supreme Court, according CNN, ruled in favor of the government. The state of California is going to conserve $80 million every month by having the furloughs in place.

California does not have any cash

It is his only option to get the deficit to go down. Bloomberg explains that the California budget deficit is, for this year, at $19.1 billion.

Less cash to pay using the income being down

For the past two years, the state of California has been continually in a crisis. At the end of the month the governor and also the state legislature can be meeting. They should be able to come to a consensus about the budget. The legislature thought the furloughs were a fantastic idea.
