Carry-on baggage no longer flies free on Spirit Airlines
Small carrier Spirit Airlines is preparing to take airline baggage fees one step further. In a move that can be closely watched, Spirit Airlines will start charging for carry-on luggage. No word yet if the airlines could be offering no credit check cheap payday loans to cover the cost of the new fees.
Spirit Airlines is a no-frills carrier
Spirit Airlines offers only no-frills service. With a $ 40 yearly membership, some customers can get Spirit airline fares for as little as $ 9 each way. Average Spirit airline fares range from $ 50 to $ 150 each way. Spirit Airlines charges $ 25 for one checked bag, and $ 70 for two. Spirit Airlines says they’ll drop their average fare by $ 40 at the exact same time they start the charge. The dropped fare might prevent customers from needing no faxing payday loans just to pay for their bags.
Spirit Airlines to charge for carry-on bags
Many airline clients are carrying on more luggage due to the checked baggage fees. Spirit Airlines plans on charging for those carry-on bags on August 1. In case you are a member of Spirit Airlines, you’ll be charged $ 20. Non-members that pre-register bags could be charged $ 30. Non-registered bags will expense $ 45 at the gate. Spirit Airlines is also considering removing the front-counter service at some airports, replacing that service with self-service kiosks only. If you only have “personal items” you’ll not be charged.
Will major airlines follow the example of Spirit Airlines?
No major air carrier has yet said they may also use these fees. Only two carriers have avoided checked bag fees – Southwest and JetBlue. Airlines received $ 700 million for checked baggage in the third quarter of last year. In that exact same time, an average ticket price dropped by 14%.
