Don't be loose with alcohol at your holiday office parties
December is here, and that means that holiday season office celebrations cannot be far behind. In the next few weeks, co-workers will get together at one workplace Christmas party or another, however just because there’s Jack and Coke does not mean that public drunkenness and inappropriate conduct are OK. Keep appropriate workplace conduct in mind, writes Fast Company – because there’s a recession on and also you do not want to lose your job.
Reputation transforms with holiday season office parties
Dancing and having a good time at holiday season workplace celebrations is fine, however getting sloppy drunk and feeling up your co-workers under the mistletoe isn’t. With all the embarrassing things occurring at holiday season workplace parties, you are able to be sure that someone will be recording you. That is the blessing of cell phones. You may end up with problems if you boss sees it too.
For some reason, negative things still continue to take place at holiday workplace celebrations. A recent survey by the HR firm Adecco points out that bad behavior at the office Christmas party is fairly common. There were 40 percent of respondents who said that at holiday workplace parties they have either engaging in embarrassing conduct or known someone else to engage in it. About 23 percent got in trouble for inappropriate behavior occurring. Eleven percent said that they either were someone or knew somebody who had inappropriate conduct get them fired. Insulting a colleague (7 percent) or boss (4 percent) was not uncommon.
Workers not meeting up
"Admitting" to meeting up at an office Christmas party is something very few respondents said happened according to the Adecco survey reports Fast Company. Only 3 percent of workers said they had hooked up with a co-worker at a holiday workplace party; it seems easy to understand that only a small number of people were willing to confess.
Office parties during the holiday seasons require self control
Getting drunk and mouthing off at the office Christmas party is a bad idea, particularly during a recession. If you don’t trust yourself around liquor and your workplace crush, make sure you’ve a wing man or two.
