Allums - Transgender athlete to nevertheless play women's basketball
Allums, a George Washington University student and basketball player, has sparked a controversy. Allums will play women’s basketball next year. This is controversial because Kye is a female-to-male transgendered person. George Washington University consulted with the National Collegiate Athletic Association before making this decision.
Allums transitions to a male identity
Allums had been born a female and grew up very much a tomboy. The 21-year-old George Washington University pupil has stated in interviews that he “always felt like a man trapped in a woman’s body.”. Kye has been becoming a male most recently. It has been a couple of months. In a statement, the 5′ 11″ guard said “I didn’t choose to be born in this body and feel the way I do.”
Allums to play in NCAA women’s basketball
Kye Allums at first started playing National Collegiate Athletic Association women’s basketball for George Washington University on a scholarship. It is a really hard thing for the University and NCAA to figure out since Kye still plans on competing in basketball, besides the transgender issue. The school was talked to by the National Center on Lesbian Rights and Women's Sports Foundation. Kye Allums can be allowed to, as long as no testosterone or drug therapy happens, participate on the women's basketball team still. The natural production of testosterone is all a woman can have in her body. This is what the National Collegiate Athletic Association rules state.
It is hard when sports are divided by sex
The transgender issue has been talked about although the National Collegiate Athletic Association basketball problem with Kye Allums is the first. The Olympic athlete Caster Semenya was questioned. The physical gender was the concern. A male who became a woman is suing the LPGA in order to compete as a professional woman golfer. This is Lana Lawless. Numerous think that there should not be a man and female separation in athletics anymore anyway. The only way people will stop worrying about the transgender issue with gender identity is if athletics change entirely. If athletics were all co-ed, then it would not be a concern.
